Relevance of etiquettes in youngsters

"Politeness and consideration for others is like investing pennies and getting dollars back."- Thomas Sowell Youth - a word that has acquired a lot of importance over the last decade. Future is something we all look at with a lot of interest, because it is yet to come. We all wish to make our future extremely colourful and bright. The reason for thrusting so much responsibility on the shoulders of youngsters is obvious: their energy and immense capability to perform tasks dexterously.  But, when we think of all these things, where do etiquettes stand? Firstly, what is the importance of etiquettes, such that they need to compulsorily be imbibed by youngsters? Etiquettes basically allude to good habits and values. They are inculcated in children right from their birth. 'Don't bite your nails', 'Wish good morning', 'Respect elders'; these are all phrases any kid is accustomed to hear.  The importance of these 'good manners' is ...

THE THREE Ls OF LIFE

Once, there was a man called Ram Prakash. He was taking an early morning walk in his lavish garden. He found that there were many flowers blossoming, and felt really happy when he saw how colourful and lively the garden had become. But, he also discovered something else. Something that caught his attention. There were many bees hovering around, and they were taking their turns to sip the nectar from the flowers. He stood there and just admired the cooperation displayed by the bees.  That got him thinking. He reflected upon his life, and thought about all those moments when we had quarreled with his wife over trivial matters like- who will get milk from the market, or who will help their child with studies. He looked at those bees once again, and saw how beautifully they were taking turns to sip at the nectar. Even though he could not look at their facial expression, their mere cooperation itself displayed empathy towards the fellow bees. He learnt a lot from that ...

How an eraser can change our life...

Perhaps one of the most under-rated accessories in our lives is the eraser. You would recall using it most frequently in my younger days, when you wrote alphabets, words and sentences in an incorrect manner, and were forced to erase them and rewrite them correctly. As we grow older, we begin using pens, and the use of the eraser becomes obsolete. But, have you ever thought about the various life-lessons an easily dispensable eraser can teach us? Well, it indeed can. Let us see how... Source- India Mart An eraser is cuboidal in shape when we initially purchase it. Most erasers are white in colour. When I was young, I would admire the pure white colour on its surface. How I wished everything was white like that eraser. In fact, at times, I even wanted darkness to be white in colour! The reason was simple- white is surely a much better than black. Why? Well, science has it that white is brighter than black. The white colour  As and when we use the eraser to remo...

Consistency: The hallmark of success

It was a warm afternoon in the month of April, and I was simply passing my time watching a few videos on YouTube. Being an avid cricket follower, when I saw Gaurav Kapoor having an interaction with Virat Kohli at ‘ Breakfast With Champions ’, I decided to watch it. In that video, I saw a different version of Virat Kohli. Usually, all of us perceive Virat to be aggressive and full of intent. But, alongside a wonderful host like Gaurav Kapoor, he beautifully narrated the various events of his life. When I heard that he trained for over four hours in the Gym (excluding his training on the field) everyday, I was left amazed. It is his consistency which has got him all his success. This is something which we all must imbibe from him. * Success never comes as an offering in front of us. We have to put in hard strides to achieve something in life. Being consistent is so important for doing so. In a student’s academic life, consistency has a very important role to play. A child can...

The art of dreaming big

DREAM BIG Robin Sharma has very rightly quoted in his amazing book, ‘The Greatness Guide’: “Too many of us are afraid to be ourselves. So we give up on our dreams to follow the crowd.” We all have so many dreams which we wish could be fulfilled. Many of us have sleepless nights visualizing ourselves achieving our dreams and standing on top of the world. We all have aspirations to be the best, and to bring about a change in this ever-changing world. These dreams can be put under various categories. We have certain dreams to set up a good family. Every student aspires to get good grades in their school. Many kids also aspire to emulate their football stars by hitting a bicycle kick (maybe Christiano Ronaldo). Many people question the art of dreaming big by saying that people actually don’t work towards them. In my view, DREAMING BIG IS THE FIRST STEP IN THE BIG LADDER OF SUCCESS . Unless we dream big, we will not even begin working towards our goals in life. Thus, v...

Don't run behind money, enjoy the journey

Sumit was new to the city of Pune. He was coming back from his college, and had apparently lost his way. He asked a passerby, “Where is Magarpatta located?” The passerby said, “Go straight and take a left turn.” Sumit thanked him and began moving ahead. All of a sudden, he heard the same man shouting from behind- “Please pay me 10 rupees for telling you the directions.” Sumit was baffled. He had asked many people for directions before, but none of them had charged him any money for that. He immediately fled away. The passerby screamed out a few expletives at him, but Sumit ran towards his home. When he reached home, he narrated this incident to his parents. They found it rather amusing, and so did Sumit. But, he was indeed amazed at the fickle-minded attitude of people. From that day onwards, he decided not to ask people for directions, and instead use Google Maps!                   ...

From teaching to setting examples

"Don't worry that children don't listen to you, worry that children are watching you." This quote by Robert Fulghum is very reflective, and in a nutshell explains what my blog contains. Children are the most wonderful and unique beings ever to take birth on this planet. It is their charm and energy which actually keeps the world going. If not for children, this world will become a place filled with very morose words like ' stress ', ' anxiety ' and ' tension ' (the irony is that it already is) When I look at young children playing in the park or just loitering around aimlessly, I feel ecstatic. This is because of the positive vibrations which they bring about in the surroundings. We get to learn a lot from their optimistic attitude. When I observe their vivacious disposition, I always feel that they are actually role models for their elders. They bring joy and fun into their lives. This thought struck me when I conducted a w...
