Consistency: The hallmark of success

It was a warm afternoon in the month of April, and I was simply passing my time watching a few videos on YouTube. Being an avid cricket follower, when I saw Gaurav Kapoor having an interaction with Virat Kohli at ‘Breakfast With Champions’, I decided to watch it. In that video, I saw a different version of Virat Kohli. Usually, all of us perceive Virat to be aggressive and full of intent. But, alongside a wonderful host like Gaurav Kapoor, he beautifully narrated the various events of his life. When I heard that he trained for over four hours in the Gym (excluding his training on the field) everyday, I was left amazed. It is his consistency which has got him all his success. This is something which we all must imbibe from him.

*Success never comes as an offering in front of us. We have to put in hard strides to achieve something in life. Being consistent is so important for doing so.
In a student’s academic life, consistency has a very important role to play. A child cannot be expected to study all day. At the same time, he/she cannot be permitted to simply play all the time. Getting into a routine is very important. One cannot study just the day before an examination and earn full marks. It requires a lot of prior study and perseverance to achieve targets. Thus, a student must be consistent.

*Here is an analogy which explains how being consistent is crucial to one's well-being. A pen can write when it has sufficient ink in it, and if it is not left open. We humans are like pens, which continuously endeavour to impact the world.  When the ink gets over; we replace it (with refills), and move on. If the pen is not closed and is instead left open for a couple of days, the ink will slowly begin drying. Similarly, when humans become lazy and surrender to worldly desires, they too erode like ink. This sums up the importance of consistency in life, and how distraction and laziness will never help us succeed.

* Success is never achieved in the first attempt. It is only when we experience failure and come out of it to become better human beings do we really understand what it takes to be successful. We must never get demotivated or demoralised if we fail. Failure is but a stepping stone to success. Persistence is the key which can open the lock to a successful life. . That is how persistence also has a significant role to play in the beautiful journey of life.

*As I mentioned in the initial paragraph, consistency has a pivotal role to play in sport as well. Look at the lives of all great sportsman and athletes. They practiced day and night to get to where they are today. Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Sachin Tendulkar and many others are living examples of what perseverance and dedication can get one in life.

My father always reminds me that one must have  ‘An eye like Arjun, the great warrior of Mahabharata’. We cannot do things all of a sudden and expect that results will come immediately. We must give it our hundred percent in every task. We will surely trip and fall on the way. But, if we have willpower and desire, we will surely achieve our goals some day or the other.

This quote by Napolean Hill reminds us about the importance of the three P's in our life-
"Patience, Persistence and Perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.

  1. A very beautiful article... I really liked it and the part where you compared humans to pens. It's really true. I mean, shouldn't we take inspiration from all things around us? We are in fact, a mixture of all living and non-living things around us and thus make the most elegant and wholesome form of creation.

Tribute to Shri Narayan Rajamani: selflessness personified

There are occasions in life that compel us to pause and reflect on the very meaning of existing as sentient beings in this world. Death is a phenomenon that unsettles even the most spiritually-inclined person. When someone with whom there exists a deep, layered bond suddenly departs for the heavenly abode, it invariably leaves one disoriented. The passing away of my maternal grandfather Shri Narayan Rajamani on the 13th of January 2023 placed me in such a situation. Ever since I was informed about his demise, I have been saturated with thoughts- ranging from the numerous interactions I had with him to the lessons that I constantly derived from his art of living. I desperately have been wanting to write a tribute for my grandpa, but even before I started, I realised that grandpa’s life cannot easily be captured in an article or two. According to Smt. Vijaya Pushkarna, former Deputy Chief of Bureau for The Week magazine and closely associated with Shri Rajamani, my grandfather's lif...

Dadabhai Naoroji- Statesman and revolutionary in his own right

The conventional narrative of the Indian national movement often accords centrality to the non-violent agitation spearheaded by the Indian National Congress. Many moderate leaders from late 19th century have not been given adequate importance given that they believed in 'petition politics' which didn't successfully elicit much popular support. Marxist historians have also shown little interest in studying the lives of these thinkers, who have been shunned as members of a 'bourgeois elite' allegedly collaborating with the British. Such notions have especially gained credence in the light of the perceived success of the non-violent movement. However, such an approach assumes a teleological unfolding of historical events, and ignores the fluid interplay of ideas that contributed to the distinctness of the Indian national movement. The gravitas of this movement can only truly be understood if all these ideological sources are duly acknowledged and thoroughly scrutinised...

Poem- All it takes is humanity

Waves in the oceans are symbolic of transmitting happiness and joy in our surroundings. Life is incomplete without the human expressions of gratitude and appreciation. The ocean exemplifies this by constantly churning out wave after wave, that spread happiness and joy in the surroundings. It was an eerie silence a silence that became my guru a silence that epitomised the colour blue a silence that made me reach out for the world, a silence that made me understand what is undeniable and true! Yes, I was standing on the sea-shore yes, there was a lot of disturbance yes, as people loitered along with discussions galore I remained undeterred, in a state of oblivion and penance Observing the sea, yes I was I closely watched the waves move up and down carrying everything that came along its way along with the electric message of peace, from dusk till dawn. I observed a little longer to find that far away from the horizon the waves were carrying a spec...
