The GAS phenomenon

GAS PHENOMENON'. Hmm... You might be wondering that this blog has got something to do with science and research. You would be thinking about the states of matter, molecular structures, atomic masses and many other complex terminologies. But I assure you that it is none of that. Read on to find out what it exactly means...

We all are indeed blessed to have taken birth in such a beautiful planet, where so many tiny and big creatures exist together. God has given us so much to cherish, such that we will never be able to thank Him enough.
There are many human virtues which hold a lot of  importance in modern society.  Here are three such values which can be summed up in the acronym GAS. I request all of you to silently introspect as you read this blog, and ask yourself whether you indeed possess these values (I am doing so I am writing this blog)

              1. Gratitude:- This word counts for so much in our lives. We must have regard for whatever we have with us. When you take in a grain of rice, thank the person who cooked the rice for you. Thank the farmer who toiled relentlessly to produce that morsel. This process might sound rather absurd; but once you begin doing it, you will feel the difference. Have gratitude towards everyone who adds value to you. This optimistic attitude will always carry you ahead in life.

          2. Appreciation:-  All of us crave for appreciation; don’t we? We all love people admiring our qualities and heaping praise upon us. It is simply human nature. But, how many times do we really appreciate our fellow people? We might feel that we appreciate at will; but in reality we rarely do so.

A few months back, my parents arranged for a private van to help us travel to school. Initially, we had many complaints, as the driver brought us home late. Once, when he brought us home on time, I felt like appreciating him; but something was stopping me from doing so. What stopped me from appreciating, still perplexes me. I wondered why I was hesitating to even say, “Thank you.”
Finally, after a while, I complemented him. He felt very happy, and that made me feel very contented. At that moment, I wondered, “We all love complaining about anything we think is wrong; but when it comes to appreciating, why do we hold ourselves back?”

I believe that the simple answer to that is that many of us feel that by appreciating, we might make the person overconfident. If we do think so, we are heavily mistaken. We must never refrain from saying, ‘Good’, ‘Well done’ and ‘Amazing’ when the required person really deserves it. Appreciating someone boosts his/her morale to a great extent, and the subjected person will perform even better next time.

 3. Satisfaction:- It is also important to understand that we must always be contented with what we have with us. We must not get greedy about wanting more stuff, which will in turn just fill the house more (which is a bigger headache!) Have less, but have those things which are essential in life.  There is always a difference between a ‘need’ and a ‘want’. The former includes things like water, food, clothing and air, which we all need for survival. Material things are transient in nature, and would perish sooner than later. Never live on those material aspects of life. Instead, adopt an intellectual and moralistic approach to life. Lessen your wants, and remain contented with what is already present with you.

The three values mentioned above are interlinked in an intricate manner. Only when we are contented with what we have with us, will we have gratitude; and only if we have gratitude will we appreciate. Just try and apply these simple fundamentals in your life. If everyone adopts such an approach, this world will be free from negativity, and only positive vibrations will surround us. This is something every human being desires in life.

I hope this was blog was helpful for self-reflection.

  1. The article is very deep in its message and enables all the readers to introspect on their own. It sparks self-realization and simplicity in self. To be honest, I often got advice from my parents to follow this, but I was never really able to fulfill it to the fullest, as I felt hesitant and odd. But, this article has really instilled confidence in me to follow this tough yet happiest path for a greater living.

Tribute to Shri Narayan Rajamani: selflessness personified

There are occasions in life that compel us to pause and reflect on the very meaning of existing as sentient beings in this world. Death is a phenomenon that unsettles even the most spiritually-inclined person. When someone with whom there exists a deep, layered bond suddenly departs for the heavenly abode, it invariably leaves one disoriented. The passing away of my maternal grandfather Shri Narayan Rajamani on the 13th of January 2023 placed me in such a situation. Ever since I was informed about his demise, I have been saturated with thoughts- ranging from the numerous interactions I had with him to the lessons that I constantly derived from his art of living. I desperately have been wanting to write a tribute for my grandpa, but even before I started, I realised that grandpa’s life cannot easily be captured in an article or two. According to Smt. Vijaya Pushkarna, former Deputy Chief of Bureau for The Week magazine and closely associated with Shri Rajamani, my grandfather's lif...

Dadabhai Naoroji- Statesman and revolutionary in his own right

The conventional narrative of the Indian national movement often accords centrality to the non-violent agitation spearheaded by the Indian National Congress. Many moderate leaders from late 19th century have not been given adequate importance given that they believed in 'petition politics' which didn't successfully elicit much popular support. Marxist historians have also shown little interest in studying the lives of these thinkers, who have been shunned as members of a 'bourgeois elite' allegedly collaborating with the British. Such notions have especially gained credence in the light of the perceived success of the non-violent movement. However, such an approach assumes a teleological unfolding of historical events, and ignores the fluid interplay of ideas that contributed to the distinctness of the Indian national movement. The gravitas of this movement can only truly be understood if all these ideological sources are duly acknowledged and thoroughly scrutinised...

Poem- All it takes is humanity

Waves in the oceans are symbolic of transmitting happiness and joy in our surroundings. Life is incomplete without the human expressions of gratitude and appreciation. The ocean exemplifies this by constantly churning out wave after wave, that spread happiness and joy in the surroundings. It was an eerie silence a silence that became my guru a silence that epitomised the colour blue a silence that made me reach out for the world, a silence that made me understand what is undeniable and true! Yes, I was standing on the sea-shore yes, there was a lot of disturbance yes, as people loitered along with discussions galore I remained undeterred, in a state of oblivion and penance Observing the sea, yes I was I closely watched the waves move up and down carrying everything that came along its way along with the electric message of peace, from dusk till dawn. I observed a little longer to find that far away from the horizon the waves were carrying a spec...
