Tips to succeed in board exams

Exams have become such an integral part of our lives. In India, the period from March to June can be called the season of examinations. According to me, in the contemporary world, exams are insignificant, as they don't help us hone our skills in any way. But, let us face it: If we need to get admitted in the best college in the country or in the world, we have to perform well in our exams.
Giving my Tenth Standard Board exams was a wonderful experience. It gave me a good outlook as to what a competitive exam is like. I will call it 'memorable' not because of the marks I scored; but because I acquired lots of value systems in the whole process. In particular, I learnt how to set targets for myself and work towards them with perseverance.

Here are a few tips which can help you crack board exams with ease-
1. Getting rid of fear-
This is the first step on the ladder of success in exams. Don't get panicky at any point of time. If any person tries to pressurise you, try to avoid interacting with him/her. As the famous One liner in a famous advertisement says- Darr ke aage jeet hai (There is victory in front of fear). Believe in yourself and give it your 100 percent. Success is bound to follow you.
2. Setting targets-
You must set targets for yourself right at the beginning of the academic year, and work towards achieving them with great vigour. Write the targets down and paste it in your study room. Visualise yourself achieving them, and work hard towards making your dream a reality!
3. Exercising and staying healthy-
This is perhaps the most crucial precursor to success in examinations. It is often observed that many kids quit exercising during exam time, and spend nearly all of their time studying. This will in fact deteriorate their performance. You must exercise regularly; for at least an hour in a day. The body and the mind requires some form of recreation and relaxation, which can be provided through exercise and meditation. Spend time with yourself and reflect on what all you have learnt. Moreover, eat the right kind of food. Refrain from eating junk food, and eat more of fruits and green leafy vegetables.
4. Study by your self-
Many renowned teachers state- Self study is the best study, and what they say is cent percent true. You must have confidence in yourself, and must not depend on someone else to help you with your academics. Please avoid going for tuition classes. They take away a lot of time from your daily schedule. You could instead utilise that time for sharpening your skills and pursuing your hobbies. That will only add value to you as an individual.
5. Learning all the time-
Knowledge is never confined to textbooks or teachers. Observe and learn from your surroundings. Learn from your parents, your friends, your teachers and definitely from Mother Nature. Nature is often proclaimed to be the best teacher. Extract as much as you can from your surroundings. Moreover, we all have a lot of resources today to aid us. In olden times, only books were available for reference. Today, the Internet has expanded our horizons of perception. Use it for your own benefit, and reap the rewards later!

These are five tips which will not only guarantee you success in board exams; they are also crucial for succeeding in various fields of work. Any kind of work requires these five elements to amalgamate. When that happens, success shines like a bright light in front!

Tribute to Shri Narayan Rajamani: selflessness personified

There are occasions in life that compel us to pause and reflect on the very meaning of existing as sentient beings in this world. Death is a phenomenon that unsettles even the most spiritually-inclined person. When someone with whom there exists a deep, layered bond suddenly departs for the heavenly abode, it invariably leaves one disoriented. The passing away of my maternal grandfather Shri Narayan Rajamani on the 13th of January 2023 placed me in such a situation. Ever since I was informed about his demise, I have been saturated with thoughts- ranging from the numerous interactions I had with him to the lessons that I constantly derived from his art of living. I desperately have been wanting to write a tribute for my grandpa, but even before I started, I realised that grandpa’s life cannot easily be captured in an article or two. According to Smt. Vijaya Pushkarna, former Deputy Chief of Bureau for The Week magazine and closely associated with Shri Rajamani, my grandfather's lif...

Dadabhai Naoroji- Statesman and revolutionary in his own right

The conventional narrative of the Indian national movement often accords centrality to the non-violent agitation spearheaded by the Indian National Congress. Many moderate leaders from late 19th century have not been given adequate importance given that they believed in 'petition politics' which didn't successfully elicit much popular support. Marxist historians have also shown little interest in studying the lives of these thinkers, who have been shunned as members of a 'bourgeois elite' allegedly collaborating with the British. Such notions have especially gained credence in the light of the perceived success of the non-violent movement. However, such an approach assumes a teleological unfolding of historical events, and ignores the fluid interplay of ideas that contributed to the distinctness of the Indian national movement. The gravitas of this movement can only truly be understood if all these ideological sources are duly acknowledged and thoroughly scrutinised...

Poem- All it takes is humanity

Waves in the oceans are symbolic of transmitting happiness and joy in our surroundings. Life is incomplete without the human expressions of gratitude and appreciation. The ocean exemplifies this by constantly churning out wave after wave, that spread happiness and joy in the surroundings. It was an eerie silence a silence that became my guru a silence that epitomised the colour blue a silence that made me reach out for the world, a silence that made me understand what is undeniable and true! Yes, I was standing on the sea-shore yes, there was a lot of disturbance yes, as people loitered along with discussions galore I remained undeterred, in a state of oblivion and penance Observing the sea, yes I was I closely watched the waves move up and down carrying everything that came along its way along with the electric message of peace, from dusk till dawn. I observed a little longer to find that far away from the horizon the waves were carrying a spec...
